Misha Collins On What Supernatural‘s Legacy Should Be
Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling Date Announcement
After 15 seasons and more than 300 episodes, Supernatural will close the book on Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) unforgettable journey next year, and that bittersweet reality is starting to sink in. Filming for Season 15 has already begun, and the show’s tight-knit cast and crew are powering through an emotional shoot to deliver a final season that will be worthwhile for fans.
“Every day is painful because every day is a new last,” Misha Collins told TV Guide during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. After working together for a decade and a half and forging tight bonds that will continue to exist outside of the show, it’s easy to see why letting go of the experience that brought them all together would be especially difficult.
“We’re really trying to make the final season good for a change,” he joked before adding, “and we’re also just struggling with a long goodbye.”
As Supernatural gears up for its “BIG!!! REAL BIG!!!” last ride, Collins has two specific hopes for the show’s legacy when it’s all said and done: that people remember it and that the SPN Family is known for being “charitable and kind and compassionate.”
Over the years, Collins and co-stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have turned their loyal fanbase into a force of good through charitable works with non-profit organizations like Random Acts, which Collins founded in 2009 to inspire random acts of kindness around the world, and Operation Smile, an international medical charity that provides surgeries for children with cleft palates and other dental conditions.
“I think we have been cultivating that, but I would love to see that be a legacy,” Collins said. “I would love to see other fandoms try to emulate Supernatural in terms of helping one another and helping the universe.”
Supernatural Season 15 premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c on The CW.
